The freestyle stroke, also referred to as front crawl, is the fastest and most effective of the competitive swimming strokes. That is why it’s at all times used in the freestyle event of swimming competitions and can also be usually the popular stroke of skilled swimmers and triathletes.

To swim freestyle, you assume an inclined position in the water. Your arm stroke makes use of alternating arm movements. Whereas one arm sweeps backward within the water from an overhead position to the hip and provides propulsion, the opposite arm recovers above water from the other hip back towards the overhead position.

Your legs execute a flutter kick, which suggests each leg kicks downward then upward within the water with pointed toes and alternating with the opposite leg. This kicking method is simple but efficient. Take a look at the video above on how freestyle is done correctly.
